During the prohibition era, all alcohols were illegal including the Sacramental Wine that Catholics use for Mass. Effectively, Catholics were performing mass illegally until the Federal government made a religious exemption for the prohibition of alcohol. 

Catholicism is pretty badass.

And we will continue to defy the law as long as it is unjust.

Catholics were some of the greatest bootleggers during Prohibition.

Plus, if you grew up Catholic in one of the many states that doesn’t make some kind of parental or religious exemption for alcohol consumption by minors, you’ve been breaking the law most of your life.
